The Sound of Music, with music by Richard Rodgers and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, book by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse opened on Broadway in 1959, starring Mary Martin and Theodore Bikel. Celebrating its 60th Anniversary, The Sound of Music has become one of the most enduring and consistently successful musicals among the great American musicals, featuring beloved standards such as "My Favorite Things", "Edelweiss", "Climb Ev'ry Mountain", "Do-Re-Mi" and "The Sound of Music" and many more. The 1959 Broadway production-starring Mary Martin and Theodore Bikel- won five Tony Awards (out of nine nominations) including "Best Musical" and "Best Actress" for Martin. Upon initial release, this cast album spent 16 weeks as N° 1 on the Billboard chart.
Mastered from the original 3 track master tape, this 60th anniversary 45 RPM 2 LP edition is pressed on 180 gram vinyl by Record Technology Inc. (RTI).
